BURN PERMITS, WIND & FIRE DANGER

With warmer weather, no snow cover, (and a seeming none ending supply of wind…) comes the heightened threat of fire danger in Golden Valley County. Burn permits are required and can be obtained free of charge at the Courthouse. Once the permit is obtained you need to call the GVC Sheriff’s Office at 406-568-2321, to inquire whether it is safe to burn, and if so, provide your burn permit number. If there is no one in the Sheriff’s Office at the time of your call, you will be automatically transferred to Dispatch in Wheatland County where you can give your burn information.
Under NO circumstances should you light a fire if the WIND IS BLOWING! Please be diligent with open and container burning to prevent loss of control of a fire
-it could end up being very costly.
